Make the case for All Stars from your team!

Postby RockyRoad » Sun Nov 29, 2015 3:58 pm

It's getting to All Star voting time for GMs in this league. With so many players in this league diverting from their real life talent levels (for better or worse), I thought it might be useful to give everyone a chance to say what players on their team should be All Stars and make a case for them to convince people to vote for them.

Say which players on your team people should vote to be All Stars and why!

Maikel Franco: a young up-and-coming star with 6 homers and 1.6 WAR so far this season.
Steve Pearce: free agent signing who has put up a .372 OBP
Justin de Fratus: 11 saves, 1.27 ERA. Has been great replacing Giles.

Wow, de Fratus and Franco have been awesome in this sim. de Fratus might be pitching like the NL's best closer right now.

On the Rockies, we have one complete lock for an All Star spot in Nolan Arenado. Before you say "it's just Coors Field inflating their numbers", I will include park-adjusted stats too so you can see that they are producing wherever they play :)

3B Nolan Arenado--3.4 WAR, 189 OPS+, .636 SLG%, Gold Glove defense. I'm thinking less about whether he should be an All Star and more about whether he will win his first MVP this season.

LF Carlos Gonzalez--1.9 WAR, 141 OPS+, 12 home runs, elite rated defense with 0 errors. He's having another great year as the leadoff man for the Rockies and deserves to be recognized as an All Star

For the Mets I would suggest these guys

Henry Owens SP - 5-2 2.45 ERA 1.6 WAR, He has a 10.2 K/9 rate so far. His FIP is also a 2.66 which backs up his ERA.

Fernando Salas RP - 29 IP 1.52 ERA Has a 1.2 WAR as a reliever so far! 13 K/9 to a 1.8 BB/9

It's been a rough start to the season, but the Dodgers are still chugging along. Outside of Kershaw (my obvious), I suggest:

LF - Adrian Gonzalez - Batting .358 up almost 70 points from last season while learning a new position.

That's about it. Kershaw and Gonzo. Tulo and Kendrick are underperforming a little, and have been out with injury. Chris Davis hasn't put up All-Star worth numbers. Rodney has the MLB 2nd best Saves total, but a 6.66 ERA to boot.

Orioles struggling more or less across the board this year, but we still have a few all star worthy guys. Craig Kimbrel hasn't had as many opportunities as one would like, but he does have 13 saves and an ERA of .42 and a WHIP of .66 in 21.1 innings. Our struggles haven't been his fault. And Justin Upton is having an excellent season as well, slashing .283/.367/.511 while pacing for 36 doubles, 32 homers, and 13 steals (though only 78 RBIs somehow). Sadly, my most All-Star worthy player can't even be voted on. DH Billy Butler is having an amazing season, slashing .347/.413/.506 with a.919 OPS and pacing for 49 doubles. For a guy who only hits, he's pacing for a 5 WAR season. Hopefully we can find a spot for him on the All Star team even though he doesn't have a true position. Also can't forget Manny Machado, who before being injured was simply on fire. Through 25 games before being hurt, he was slashing .306/.336/.611 with a .947 OPS. His 162 game projections? 110 runs, 64 doubles, 6 triples, 46 home runs, 116 RBIs. He should be back before the All Star Game with time to get back in the groove and add to his actual numbers a bit.

Alex Guerrero and Corey Dickerson are both leading their respective positions in WAR. And that was even with Guerrero missing some time earlier this season. He won the NL Silver Slugger at SS last season and has been the best hitting SS in the NL again this season. And Dickerson has been absolutely mashing, with an OPS+ sitting between 180 and 200 all season.

The Rockies have 4 players leading their positions in the NL in WAR, which makes sense as the Rockies offense has been by far the best in the league. Hopefully the voters don't get fatigue of voting for players from the same team and reward all 4 players for their seasons with All Star votes :)
